Anti aging:How Marketers Get Away With All Things Anti-Aging Beauty by Lorne Caplan

As the market for anti-aging beauty products continues to defy the recession, marketers are getting even more bold, despite the efforts of the FTC and FDA to shut some of them down. The recent raids on certain weight loss companies and restrictions set on the sale of items like Hydroxycut, would suggest that companies and their spokespeople would think twice before making unsubstantiated claims and wild promises regarding skin health and rejuvenation, not to mention internal health and vitality.
My experience tells me otherwise. As a member of multiple information sources that fill my inboxes with new ingredients, products and content regarding all things anti-aging beauty, I a, bombarded almost hourly with the likes of Arbonne (skin care multi-level marketing - MLM - company), Shaklee (nutraceuticals MLM), Monavie (liquid mutrition MLM) and any number of other “get rich quick while helping others improve their health” deals.
I may sound skeptical, and I am, but the number of these companies has clogged the internet, not to metion the trade shows and consumer shows. With little to show, except expensive product and pyramid schemes, those professional companies that are part of the MLM network, like Avon, stay out of the limeloght. Others are getting caught up in the actions taken by the FDA and FTC, who would like nothing more than to poke more holes in the DSHEA law that opened up the nutraceutical worlds ability to market their products as food, but often find themselves touting the health benefits.
One such advertisement, disguised as an earnest attempt to help people, went like this;
“The worlds best Anti-Aging Tonic… Dr. David Sinclair, Harvard University REVOLUTIONARY BREAKTHROUGH… see the science proof
Just one of the ingredients in VivixTM alone has been referenced in over 2,000 research publications, including multiple studies conducted by Harvard University, the National Institutes on Aging, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
3,000 GLASSES OF RED WINE 30-day supply of VivixTM delivers that equivalent amount of just resveratrol plus
Muscadine Grape extract (Vitis rotundifolia) (fruit pomace), trans-Resveratrol (Polygonumcuspidatum) (root) standardized to a minimum of 98% purity, European Elderberry extract (Sambucus nigra) (fruit), and Purple Carrot extract (Daucus carota sativus) (root)

To Feel 25 years YOUNGER and Live 25 years LONGER”
Wow! Look at the bolded and capitalized letters! Look at the use of one of the doctors and researchers who is working on determining if resveretrol can indeed role the clock back on aging (his company was bought for 0 million, so he has a real lab and cash as oppposed to the fellow who wrote this).
It’s difficult at once, to either take this seriously, or to turn away from it, but the old adage is still quite true; “if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is”. In this case, no conclusive evidence has been established to prove that resveretrol can indeed roll back the years. More importantly, some research has shown that excessive amounts of antioxidents can be harmful as well, overcoming the free radicals and attacking the power houses of our cells.
We should rather consider that our bodies know what to do in order to protect us and as long as we eat right, excercise and take care of our minds, then we will be well along with our immune systems and repair mechanisms. Plenty of recent research has come out against even the use of vitamins and their ineffectiveness. Unlike either side of the discussion, I am always for supplementing if you don’t eat your vegetables and fruits and take in too much red meat and not eanough fish. I also find that I keep coming back to the diet that one eats and how that is paramount to the health of the individual. So rather than thinking a bottle of Acai juice will solve all your health problems, keep focused on the long term solution, no matter how distasteful. You’ll be happier and wealthier that you did.
